Pablo Mari has been in fine spirits alongside his new Arsenal team-mates during their warm-weather training trip to Dubai.
The Gunners are in need of a boost as they struggle to put together a winning run of form in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta’s side sit 10th after 25 games having failed to win 19 matches and drawing on 13 occasions.
Their new central defender could help them add to their five clean sheets so far this season, and their technical director is expecting big things.
“Pablo is an experienced player who will provide us with additional defensive quality,” Edu said.
“We have been monitoring Pablo’s career for a while and we are very pleased to have reached agreement with Flamengo for him to join us initially until the end of our season.
“Together with Mikel and his coaching team, we are all looking forward to seeing Pablo in an Arsenal shirt.”
The 26-year-old has now been** photographed alongside his new colleagues as they make the most of the their break, with the former Manchester City fringe player posing with Arteta, Gabriel Martinelli and Dani Ceballos among others.
“When you build a good group and have a coaching philosophy like Mikel’s, I think he can completely change Arsenal and the current dynamic around the team,” Mari said after his move was confirmed.
“I think as a coach he has everything it takes to achieve that, plus he has a very good side with top players.
“I think as time goes by and with the day-to-day work from Mikel, we can achieve that.”
He later added: ”Mikel transmitted a lot of confidence to me. He’s a great coach and he’s changing things at a big club.
“It’s really important to have that personality to be able to take decisions at a big club during such a tricky time and I think that speaks volumes about Mikel.”
Although he is yet to make his international debut, Arteta rates Mari highly and he is especially happy that he was able to add some balance to his team with a left-footed defender.
He said: “He is a new player and I am sure he is very excited and wants to prove everything in three days, so we have to manage him wisely.”
Before adding of the group as a whole: ”Just the fact of having everyone together, not just the players but the staff and the backroom staff to spend some time together and work on some of the things that we have to improve.”
