ARSENAL 0-1 CHELSEA | PULISIC

5: GOAL! Did I really say this would be a low scoring affair? Foolish.

We have lift-off in the FA Cup final and it’s Captain America Christian Pulisic with the breakthrough. Olivier Giroud cleverly flicks Mason Mount’s cross into the path of Pulisic, who dinks the ball past Emiliano Martinez. The Gunners were asleep.

4: Chances! Well… that should really have been 1-0 to Arsenal. Ainsley Maitland-Niles does well to wriggle his way past Cesar Azpilicueta down by the corner flag. His cross is perfect for the arriving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who glances wide.

Chelsea break upfield and Mason Mount forces a fine, full-stretch save from Emiliano Martinez. Olivier Giroud is furious because he was wide open.

3: Should be interesting to see who takes charge of this one. Both playing a 3-4-3 and both prefer playing on the break. Everyone’s saying they expect goals – but I’m predicting a low-scoring affair. Quite a cagey opening with most of the play rattling around the midfield third.

ARSENAL 0-0 CHELSEA

1: PEEP! We’re underway in the FA Cup final, folks! An almost deserted Wembley heard a terrific a rendition of the traditional FA Cup Final hymn “Abide With Me” by Emeli Sandé. She sang it from the roof of the stadium! Good view for the game actually…

Twitter reaction

Martin: I’m thrilled we’re in the final after what’s been going on the last couple of seasons. Nerves and excitement kicking in. I almost don’t care what the result is considering … ya get me?

Joe: I love that David Luiz is 33 years old and pundits are still debating whether he’ll be able to find consistency. Just leave him be. He’s hilarious. Enjoy him.

Folain: Chelsea defence will concede goals. Arsenal defence will concede goals. Chelsea & Arsenal midfield is not prolific. But Chelsea front three is never better than Arsenal front three. That’s a fact! Arsenal will score more goals today!

Nope… I’m afraid I don’t Martin.

So special – Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to the BBC: “It will be so special. Basically, for our players, our staff and our fans we know it has been a difficult season so it will be a great way to end it.

“It’s the history of this football club – the demands are so high. We have a chance to lift a trophy today so let’s go for it and the future will look so much better.

“It’s what we have. At least we have the opportunity to play. It’s such an honour to be in this competition and in the final so let’s enjoy it.

“This last week, they were all putting everything into every training session so it was hard to pick. We need everybody.”

Team news – Arsenal

Arsenal make one change from the side who beat Watford on the final day of the Premier League season.

Spanish defender Hector Bellerin comes in to replace Joe Willock. Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe form the attacking trio.

Team news – Chelsea

Chelsea are unchanged from the side that started the 2-0 win over Wolves last Sunday.

N’Golo Kante is on the bench but there’s no place for Willian, who has failed to recover from injury. I wonder if the Brazilian has played his last game for the club?

The world’s most expensive goalkeeper has lost his starting place to 38-year-old Willy Caballero. Astonishing when you think about it.

Starting XI

The teams have been announced, folks. Bukayo Saka has to settle for a place on the bench, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles starts. N’Golo Kante is back in the squad but is among the substitutes. Big Willy Caballero starts ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga. Willian not involved at all.

Arsenal XI: Martinez; Holding, Luiz, Tierney; Bellerin, Ceballos, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles; Pepe, Lacazette, Aubameyang.

Subs: Macey, Sokratis, Kolasinac, Torreira, Smith, Willock, Nelson, Saka, Nketiah.

Chelsea XI: Caballero; Rudiger, Zouma, Azpilicueta; Alonso, Kovacic, Jorginho, James; Mount, Abraham, Pulisic.

Subs: Kepa, Christensen, Tomori, Emerson, Kante, Barkley, Hudson-Odoi, Pedro, Abraham.

Who needs it more?

Quite a straightforward question I’ve asked myself there.

Arsenal. Arsenal need it more. The Gunners finished in eighth position – their lowest league finish for a quarter of a century.

Mikel Arteta knows the importance of qualifying for European football. It’s not only the financial aspect and prestige – but recruitment could be made a lot easier.

Chelsea, on the other hand, finished in fourth, secured Champions League football and have already made two stonking signings. Could be the icing on the cake I suppose.

Frank Lampard’s side will be urged on by Wolves and that’s because they will qualify for the Europa League if Chelsea win today.

ARSENAL vs CHELSEA | TEAM NEWS

Arsenal are expected to have defender Hector Bellerin available for today’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

The Spaniard missed the victory over Watford on the final day of the season with a calf injury but he resumed training earlier this week.

Cedric Soares is cup-tied, while Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari, Shkodran Mustafi and Gabriel Martinelli all remain sidelined.

Chelsea pair N’Golo Kante and Willian have returned from their respective injuries.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek sustained a minor injury in training on Thursday and has been ruled out.
