Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has put Man Utd in pole position for Donny van de Beek transfer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had a huge say in Manchester United’s pursuit of Donny van de Beek.

The Norweigan is desperate for new signings at Old Trafford after making a shortlist to club chiefs.

He has been keen on signing a right-winger, a centre-back and a creative midfielder.

For the latter, he has particularly frustrated after his attempts to sign Jack Grealish went cold.

Aston Villa have demanded £80m for the services of their captain and United will not meet that sum.

Instead, the Red Devils have looked elsewhere with Ajax ace Van de Beek now a main target and Solskjaer has had a major say.

Donny van de Beek could leave Ajax this summer

The Netherlands international looks set on leaving Ajax this summer.

Barcelona are interested, with new boss Ronald Koeman knowing all about him as previous manager of Holland..

But United are winning the battle, according to the Mirror.

And Solskjaer is the reason why after personally intervening to hurry up a deal.

The Norweigan has made personal calls to Van de Beek in a bid to convince him that he intends on using him as a major part of his squad next season.

He has been given permission for further talks with the 23-year-old over the next day in a bid to land him this summer.

United are desperate to sign Van de Beek

United’s transfer business has been slow this summer after several attempts for Jadon Sancho had been knocked back.

Negotiations have hit a standstill after Borussia Dortmund told the Red Devils he would not leave for less than £110m.

The Bundesliga club are confident over their price tag with Sancho still having three years on his contract.

As for United chief Ed Woodward, £110m is too extravagant a fee with a bid of up to £80m believed to be more in their ballpark.

A centre-back is also planned for Solskjaer, who wants to partner Harry Maguire up with a top-class defender.

It spells danger for the likes of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly, who would be pushed down the pecking order.
