Arsenal’s interest in Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey has the Spanish giants concerned, according to reports. The Ghana international is wanted by Mikel Arteta as a replacement for Matteo Guendouzi, who is primed to be shown the door. But signing him won’t be easy, with the player’s release clause at £45million.
Arsenal have already enjoyed a solid start to the transfer window, securing the signature of Willian.
The Brazil international is poised to be followed by Gabriel Magalhaes, who is set to sign on the dotted line from Lille imminently.
Arsenal aren’t finished there, however, and want further signings despite recently beating Liverpool to win the Community Shield.
Partey is on Mikel Arteta’s radar, with the Ghana international impressing for Atletico over the years and becoming a vital player in Diego Simeone’s midfield.

They’re worried that they could see the midfielder leaving the Spanish capital due to his release clause, with £45m representing a bargain in the current footballing world.
And, as a result, they’re now planning to give the 27-year-old a new contract with a pay rise to ensure he remains at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Whether Arsenal act on their desire to sign Partey remains to be seen, with funds in short supply over at the capital.
But Arteta would definitely like to bring the Atletico star to the Emirates, especially with Guendouzi being set to be sold after angering Arteta with his conduct off the field.
Meanwhile, former Ghana star Mohammed Gargo has urged Partey to jump at the chance to sign Arsenal if the Gunners actively pursue his signing.

Ghana coach CK Akonnor, though, thinks Partey should reject Arsenal and stay in Spain due to the fact Atletico have Champions League football to offer.
“Honestly, I wouldn’t want him to move to Arsenal because with Atletico, he will always play Champions League football. His position is guaranteed and he will always play,” Akonnor told Starr FM.
“With Arsenal, I’m not too sure. Arsenal fans will kill me [for saying he should not join the Gunners].
“I hope that, and I’m sure money issues will come in, but I hope that whatever he asks for, Atletico will be able to pay.”
Last season, Partey made 35 league outings for Atletico, starting in 29 of the matches and scoring on three occasions.
