Ainsley Maitland-Niles makes decision on Arsenal future after club made him available for transfer

Arsenal star Ainsley Maitland-Niles will prioritise a need for regular first-team minutes, as he decides on his long-term future with the club.

The 23-year-old was made available for transfer this summer and although no clubs have reached their £25m valuation, Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen.

Earlier in the window, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had a £15m bid rejected for Maitland Niles, but could be preparing a second offer, according to the Daily Mail.

The report suggests that the versatile midfielder, who is equally adept at wing-back, is considering leaving his boyhood club in search for more regular football.

Maitland-Niles made his England debut alongside Wolves skipper Conor Coady in midweek, but knows that to continue being selected for his country, he must play consistent top-flight football.

First choice full-back options, Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney are both available for this weekend’s Premier League opener with Fulham, meaning he could be given a watching brief.

And It’s claimed that being left out of the line-up against the Cottagers could be the deciding factor in forcing through a move.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has repeatedly praised Maitland-Niles, particularly after his Man of the Match display in the Community Shield win over Liverpool.

Following the game at Wembley, Arteta said: “The way he’s playing at the moment shows me that he can do it. His mentality, the way he is going about every single detail for the preparation of a football game is much better than before.

“I’m delighted and very happy for him as he’s changing a lot of things around him to become the player that he can be.

“The best way to show a player what a manager thinks about him is to give him the chance to play or not. Today, in a final again, he has started – like he did against City in the semi-final, against Chelsea in the final.”

Maitland-Niles made 20 Premier League appearances last season and has claimed he will remain an Arsenal player until “told otherwise”.
