Dean Henderson is set to start for Manchester United against Aston Villa this weekend.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will watch his side play in the friendly ahead of their test against Crystal Palace the following weekend, and is set to bench his No.1 stopper David de Gea.
The Spain international came in for criticism last season after a string of mistakes in the Premier League, while Henderson forced his way into the England squad after impressing on loan at Sheffield United.
Henderson has since signed an extension to his deal at Old Trafford in a show of his intentions, but he remains behind De Gea in the pecking order under Solskjaer.
Daily Star Sport understand that the Norwegian is expected to hand the prospect his United debut in the Villa game ahead of his first full season with the first-team squad, which will come at the expense of his team-mate.
Solskjaer has said in the past that De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world, and also that Henderson will go on to have a good career at United following his return to the club.
The former Cardiff boss said in 2019: “Sheffield United and Chris Wilder have had a big impact on him because he’s learning, he’s growing as a human being and as a player.
“He’ll come back one day and will have a good career at Man Utd.”
The 23-year-old said after signing his new deal in August: “The pathway that I have been on for the past five years has been fantastic for my development and the invaluable loan period at Sheffield United has been part of that.
“The goalkeeping department at United is excellent; there are three top-level goalkeepers who have achieved so much in the game and I look forward to working with the group.
“The faith that the manager and the club have shown in me with this contract means a lot to me and will continue my progression as a goalkeeper.
“I’ll be giving everything to improve every day so that I can play as many games as possible for this great club.”

Solskjaer added when the contract, that runs until 2025 was signed: “We are delighted that Dean has signed his new contract.
“He had another great season at Sheffield United, where he gained a lot of experience and grew both as a player and a person.
“Dean is a fantastic young keeper with the attitude and work-rate to keep improving every day.
“We are in a strong position within the goalkeeping department and that gives us the competition for places that we are looking for in the squad.”
