Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that Thiago would be a solid addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side – but spoke of ‘disrespect’ in the push for the signing.
The defending Premier League champions have largely been quiet in the window so far, which has led to a lot of talk on social media as some fans urge for fresh reinforcements.
Thiago is a player who has regularly been linked with a move to Anfield from Bayern Munich in recent weeks, with Klopp having to bat back questions over a rumoured pursuit.
Earlier this summer, Liverpool knocked down links with the Spaniard and insisted he was not an active target. But it remains to be seen whether the situation will develop before the transfer window closes.
While Carragher feels Thiago would offer Klopp’s side something different in midfield, he added that he does not necessarily agree with the demand for new recruits.
He said on Sky Sports’ commentary: “I think Thiago would give Liverpool ‘s midfield something different, no doubt.
“There’s no point buying for buying’s sake but I certainly think they could do with someone to compensate that front three.
“Thiago would give them something different but the huge clamour for Thiago is a little bit disrespectful to this midfield and the work they’ve put in over the past few years.
“They are similar players and Thiago would add something different but if he doesn’t come in, it’s not the end of the world.
“This has been a fantastic midfield for Liverpool.”
The Reds kicked off the defence of their title with a 4-3 win against Leeds United at Anfield earlier today.
