UNITED TARGET BALE AS SANCHO ALTERNATE
AndThe Timesreport the Welsh forward is open to the move if United can reach an agreement with Real Madrid.
Bale has long been unhappy in the Spanish capital and clashed with manager Zinedine Zidane throughout last season, only starting 14 games for the campaign.
Complicating matters is Bale’s £600,000-a-week ($AUD1m) salary, however Real Madrid has previously expressed a willingness to paying 50 per cent of that wage to help get him off their books.
Nonetheless, given Bale’s age and recent injury record United may flinch at paying even half his salary.
While the Premier League club has not given up its pursuit of Sancho, Borussia Dortmund are sounding increasingly bullish that he is not going anywhere.
“Jadon Sancho will play at Borussia Dortmund this season,” Borssia Dortmund sporting Sebastian Kehl said.
“Manchester United have not submitted a new bid to sign him.”
Alongside Bale, United is looking at Juventus’ Douglas Costa, Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic and Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman.
CITY CHASING GIMENEZ
Having already splashed £41m pounds on Dutch centre back Nathan Ake, Manchester City has reportedly had an €89 million (£82m/$144m) offer for Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez rejected.
AS report Atletico Madrid are not looking to sell Gimenez, but the 25-year-old does have a €120m (£111m/$195m) release clause.
According to the report, Manchester City sporting director Txiki Beguiristain has begun discussions with Atletico CEO Migul Angel Gil Marin and sports director Andrea Berta.
UNITED’S REGUILON ISSUES
The Guardian reports Manchester United is interested in Real Madrid leftbaack Sergio Reguilon but unwilling to pay the LaLiga side’s €30m (£27.2m/$48.8m) asking price.
And in a further roadbump to negotiations, United have rejected Real Madrid’s request for any deal to include a buyback clause.
Reguilon spent last season on loan at Seville, starring in its Europa League win, and has three years left on his contract at Madrid but is not in Zidane’s first-team plans.
LIVERPOOL, UNITED ACCUSED OF TRANSFER BLACKMAIL
Liverpool and Manchester United’s protracted chase of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago has ruffled the feathers of the German club’s president, Uli Hoeness, who has accused the two PL outfits of trying to “blackmail” Bayern by refusing to meet their asking price..
“It is a difficult situation,” he told Sport1
“A while ago we agreed on a new four-year contract. Some days later he said: ‘I’m looking for a new challenge’. Which is totally okay.
“I think he obviously has an agreement with Liverpool or Manchester United or both of them. Now both clubs are bluffing, and no one has contacted Bayern Munich officially.
“From my point of view, that has no style. They’re trying to blackmail us, by waiting until the last week, when they’re going to make a cheap offer.”
