Chelsea are on the verge of signing Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who is reportedly “keeping a cool head” amid his £20million switch to Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard is keen to bring in another goalkeeper to provide competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga, who produced a number of costly mistakes for the Blues last season.
And Mendy appears to be his man, with the Senegal international’s agent claiming this week that a deal has already been agreed between Chelsea and Rennes.
According to L’Equipe, the west London club tabled an initial offer of £18million, which fell bellow Rennes’ £27million asking price.
But it is believed the two sides have now agreed on a £20million deal, meaning Chelsea were given permission to speak with Mendy on Wednesday.
And ahead of his big-money move to England, the 28-year-old is understood to be “eager to take the big jump, but keeping a cool head”.
Chelsea simply need to finalise the last few details with his representatives before confirming the deal.
Mendy will become Lampard’s seventh signing of the summer, following the likes of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner in at Stamford Bridge.
However, one man who could be on his way out of the club this summer is Fikayo Tomori.
L’Equipe go on to report that Tomori, who burst onto the scene at Chelsea last term, could be sent to Rennes on loan as part of the deal to sign Mendy.
The French club’s sporting director Florian Maurice is reportedly an admirer of him, meaning a swap deal could make sense for both parties.

Tomori could struggle for first-team minutes at Chelsea this season following the arrival of Thiago Silva, who joined on a free transfer after leaving Paris St-Germain last month.
He is understood to have several options on the table, nonetheless, with Everton also interested in a loan move for the youngster.
