WOLVES 1-3 MANCHESTER CITY
Manchester City finally kicked off their Premier League season at Molineux against Wolves, but nearly suffered a late upset.
City started quickly, with Kevin De Bruyne winning a penalty after a foul by Romain Saiss, which he confidently converted himself.
Phil Foden then put his name in the headlines for the right reasons after his misdemeanours on England duty by slotting home Raheem Sterling’s sharp cutback.

But Wolves came back in the second half and spurned a number of golden chances to pull a goal or two back before Raul Jiminez, who was guilty of one of those earlier misses, powered home a header to set up a grandstand finish.
But rather than another Wolves goal, Gabriel Jesus thumped home a third for the visitors with what was the last kick of the game.
It was a record 10th consecutive time that City have won their first game of the season as they look to wrestle the Premier League title back from Liverpool this season.
ASTON VILLA 1-0 SHEFFIELD UNITED
Aston Villa kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Sheffield United on Monday as Ezri Konsa bagged the winner after Emiliano Martinez saved a penalty for the hosts.
United were a man down early on after captain John Egan was sent off for a foul on Ollie Watkins.
Villa keeper Martinez saved John Lundstram’s first half penalty in his first appearance following his £17 million ($21 million) move from Arsenal last week.
Konsa sealed the points in the second half with a looping header, a well-earned reward for a committed display after he played on despite appearing to injure himself sprinting out for the second half.
It was the perfect start for Dean Smith’s side, who beat Burton Albion in the League Cup second round last week, as they look to avoid a repeat of last season’s relegation battle.
