Manchester United target Alex Telles is pushing for a move to Old Trafford in the coming weeks.
But the Red Devils are continuing to haggle with Porto over the player’s £17m price tag.
Telles has less than one year to run on his deal in Portugal, meaning United don’t need to meet his £36.5m release clause to secure a deal.
However, Ed Woodward and his team still want to drive the price down – despite Porto more than halving that fee in recent talks.
The Telegraph report Telles has made his intentions clear that he intends to move to United, despite the two clubs remaining apart on their valuations.
The 27-year-old has ‘signalled his determination’ for a move to materialise in the coming weeks.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to get the player in to offer competition for Luke Shaw, in a move which will see Brandon Williams move over to right-back.
Telles is in line to feature for Porto this weekend but could be a United player by October 5.
Solskjaer is also looking at a right-sided attacker and potentially another centre-back.
But club legend Andy Cole doesn’t think another defensive addition, on top of Telles, is a good use of money.
“Naturally everyone is talking about Sancho, everyone is talking about another centre-half,” he told Manchester Evening News.
“I think the midfield area now is full of quality.
“People talk about a new left-back, so if you add all of that together, that’s a lot of money.
“In terms of centre-halves, we’ve bought [Victor] Lindelof for £30million, [Eric] Bailly for £30million, [Harry] Maguire £80million, that’s a lot of money. What’s another centre-half going to cost you?

“And then they’re saying we want Sancho, who is another £107million, so we’re talking over £200million for two players.
“In this climate, where are we going to get £200million from?”
United also remain committed to landing key transfer target Sancho.
But with less than two weeks left of the window remaining, time is running out.
