Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hit back at criticism of Manchester United’s summer transfer window and insists it’s ‘disrespectful’ to Donny van de Beek to describe him as their ‘only’ signing.
United chiefs have failed to significantly add to their squad this summer, with Van de Beek the only arrival thus far, although they are still said to be pursuing Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho and Porto left-back Alex Telles.
Solskjaer was unimpressed with the accusation that United risk standing still if they don’t continue to add to their squad this summer, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City continuing to strengthen as well.
Van de Beek arrived in a £40million deal from Ajax and is viewed as good business, but many feel United have failed to address their problem areas this summer, while Sancho – widely considered to be their top target – remains a Dortmund player.
They have until October 5 to bring the England international and any other recruits to the club. As it stands United have spent less than any other top-four Premier League club.
But Solskjaer claimed it was ‘disrespectful’ of a journalist to describe Van de Beek as the ‘only player’ to have come through the door at Old Trafford this summer.
‘I think you show quite a bit of disrespect to Donny when you say he was the only one,’ Solskjaer said.
‘Because he is a top player and he strengthens our team and, of course, we have to concentrate on ourselves.

‘We are working hard to have a competitive squad and team. If and when there are updates we will give you them.’
