What Chelsea squad and Frank Lampard did in training ahead of Sevilla clash | Football | Sport

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is currently preparing for his side’s Champions League clash with Sevilla on Tuesday night. The La Liga giants won the Europa League last term, beating Manchester United on their way to glory, and will be no pushovers at Stamford Bridge. Express Sport will reveal what we noticed from Cobham ahead of the match.

Rondos

Chelsea may be the slight favourites ahead of the Sevilla match but they may not have the bulk of the ball.

And they were seen working hard on rondos prior to the match.

Jorginho was the man in the middle for the Blues, with the likes of Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Andreas Christensen, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi around the Italy international.

In a separate group, it was the turn of Reece James to retrieve the ball.

James was in a set-up that included Timo Werner and Mason Mount.

Defensive work

Sevilla could try and counter-attack Chelsea during the match at Stamford Bridge.

And the Blues were spotted working on their defensive skills, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva grafting ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Kepa could get the nod for the game.

And he’ll be out to do better than last time out, with the Spain international struggling in the 3-3 draw with Southampton on Saturday.

Chelsea have shipped goals galore since Lampard took over, averaging 1.5 a game, and will have to be at their best to keep Sevilla at bay.

Team news: Lampard opens up on leaky backline

Speaking before the match, Lampard opened up on his side’s leaky backline and tried to find the positive from it.

“In terms of the goals conceded, I am aware of the stats,” he said.

“The other stat is that since we have been here we have conceded the second least shots in the Premier League behind Man City, so sometimes it helps you to narrow down some of the issues.

“And the issues are that we don’t concede too many shots on goal but when we do we concede goals.

“It’s something we are aware of when you look at our recruitment.”
