Arsenal player ratings vs Leicester: Partey impresses but Aubameyang scores low | Football | Sport

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta had high hopes for Sunday’s visit of Leicester City, with the Spaniard expecting his troops to put in a stellar performance following defeat to Manchester City in their last league outing.

That stellar performance, however, failed to come to fruition, with the north Londoners being suffering a 1-0 defeat at the Brendan Rodgers’ troops.

Despite failing to pick up all three points, there were some positives for the Gunners boss to mull over, including an impressive home debut from deadline day signing Thomas Partey.

Find out how Express Sport rated the Ghanaian and his fellow team-mates below.

Arsenal player ratings vs Leicester

Leno – 6

Had very little to deal with but was alert and steady when called upon, which was in stark contrast to his display against Rapid Wien on Thursday. Made a great save in extra time to prevent the visitors bagging a second.

Bellerin – 6

Was seldom called upon but was strong when required to put his foot in. He also provided a good outlet for the Gunners’ attack on the right wing, and came close to breaking the deadlock with a controlled volley in the 67th minute.

He was, however, lucky not to have been given a booking a few minutes earlier for a reckless tackle on James Justin.

Luiz – 6

The Brazilian enjoyed an error-free night at the Emirates, which was in large part down to the early absence of Jamie Vardy. His evening ended prematurely as he was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Gabriel – 6

The £27million signing marshalled the defence well and kept Harvey Barnes at bay. He was, however, out of position for Vardy’s winner.

Tierney – 7

The Scot was lively on the left flank and got in behind Foxes’ full-back Timothy Castagne on multiple occasions. Had very little to do defensively but was sold when called on.

Ceballos – 6

The Spaniard was at the heart of everything good the Gunners did, conducting the orchestra in the middle of the pitch. He was, however, unable to create any clear-cut chances further up the pitch.

Xhaka – 5

Put on a stellar performance until he allowed Cengiz Under to run in behind him to tee up Jamie Vardy for an easy header.

Partey – 7

Was solid in his first Premier League start and showcased his wide range of passing on multiple occasions. All in all, it was a steady home fixture for the Ghanaian.

Saka – 6

The England international got in threatening positions multiple times but let himself down with some poor touches and uncharacteristic bad finishing.

Lacazette – 6

Was unlucky to have a first-half header ruled out by the linesman, who deemed Xhaka to have impeded Kasper Schmeichel. Due to a lack of service, the Frenchman often had to drop deep to get involved in the game.

Aubameyang – 5

The Gabon international was lively as ever in the first half but had very little service and thus had few opportunities to test Kasper Schmeichel.

Should’ve buried a first-half header after getting on the end of a great ball from Tierney. Disappeared completely from the game in the second-half, much to the frustration of his manager.

Subs

Mustafi – 6

The German seamlessly deputised for the injured Luiz, slotting alongside Gabriel and marshalling the defence well.

Pepe – 5

Failed to get into the game after his being brought on to replace Saka, offering very little in terms of an offensive threat.

Nketiah – 5

Suffered the same fates as Lacazette and Aubameyang due to a lack of service.
