Jose Enrique says Diogo Jota is currently ahead of Roberto Firmino in the pecking order of strikers at Liverpool and ‘100 per cent’ deserves to keep his starting berth.
The 23-year-old continued his fine start to his Reds career as he netted a hat-trick in Jurgen Klopp’s side’s 5-0 thrashing of Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Jota now has seven goals in just 10 games since joining the Merseyside club from Wolves in a £45million deal back in the summer.
The Portugal international is now strongly stating his case to start ahead of Firmino in the Premier League.
Firmino, who primarily operates as a false nine, has scored just one goal so far in the 2020/21 campaign.
And former Liverpool left-back Enrique is certain that Jota deserves to keep his place in the starting XI when Liverpool take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
‘Definitely he deserves a starting spot, 100 per cent,’ Enrique told Sky Sports.
‘To be honest he has been fantastic. You could see yesterday he was ahead of everyone. He was unbelievable.

‘He had another chance early on as well, where he did an unbelievable movement and nearly scored.
‘He is in very, very good form and deserves the starting spot he’s getting right now.
‘I believe right now Jota is the man that deserves the spot. The season is long, there are a lot of games. But at the moment for me, Jota is ahead of Firmino as a striker, 100 per cent.’
