Expected Liverpool and Man City XIs to be picked at Etihad with big calls to come

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could bring Roberto Firmino back into his team to face Manchester City despite the form of Diogo Jota.

Jota has been in scintillating form since joining from Wolves in the summer and netted a hat-trick in the Champions League win over Atalanta.

But, with it being such a big Premier League clash at the Etihad, Klopp is expected to revert to his trusted front three.

That means Firmino should be alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for the Reds.

In midfield, Klopp is likely to bring Naby Keita back in with Thiago Alcantara still out injured, while Joel Matip could feature in defence.

Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola both have big decisions to make

Klopp said: “With Thiago, that’s how it is. It’s an injury but doesn’t need a surgery, all these kind of things, but still takes time.

“The challenge that day was a harsh one and directly against the leg, so still adapting but improving. It will not be too long anymore but for this game I don’t think he will be in.

“The longer he [Thiago] is out, the longer he has to train before we consider him as a starting line-up player. Thiago will not be available for Sunday.”

City boss Pep Guardiola is expected to stick with Ferran Torres with Sergio Aguero out.

Fernandinho and Benjamin Mendy remain sidelined though Phil Foden could start despite the return of Gabriel Jesus.

Guardiola said: “When you play against teams like Liverpool you always have moments where you have to suffer.

“We know it, we have to do it and try to use our strength as much a possible. We know each other quite well, we play many many times and I don’t expect a game like 90 minutes we will be there or they will be there.
