Man Utd injury news: Luke Shaw out for up to six weeks as Alex Telles set to get chance | Football | Sport

Manchester United are reportedly set to be without Luke Shaw for at least a month and the left-back could miss as much as six weeks’ of action, with Alex Telles set to be handed his first run in the side since joining in the summer.

The Athletic say Shaw faces between four to six weeks out but the injury is not as severe as the torn hamstring that kept him out for a big portion of last season.

Shaw’s injury, however, is still a significant setback for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side with the England international having started all of their seven Premier League matches this season.

Solskjaer fumed at the Premier League’s fixture schedule after Shaw went down injured against Everton on Saturday, limping off midway through the second half.

United were playing at Goodison Park a little over 48 hours after their Champions League loss to Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey, where Shaw played 90 minutes.

And a furious Solskjaer said: “We were set up to fail. The kick-off time set us up to fail. We’ve got Luke Shaw injured today because we’ve been to Turkey, played loads of games this season already, Thursday morning we’re back in and we’re playing the Saturday lunchtime kick-off. It’s an absolute shambles.

“I can’t praise the boys enough for that character they’ve shown, that’s all I want to talk about today. Them boys, they deserve better than being thrown out here to fail today.

“Luke Shaw has got injured because of it. It’s a hamstring which might be a long one and Marcus Rashford might be struggling.

“The authorities have set us up to fail. How can they set us up after a Champions League game Wednesday night in Turkey and set us a Saturday 12:30pm kick-off?

“You’ve got Liverpool and City, fair play they play against each other, they played on Tuesday and now they play on Sunday. Who is responsible? We’ve had enough of that. I’ve had enough.

“Players this season, you have to understand that in these times, a pandemic, how mentally and physically draining that is. And you set us up like this. We’ve lost Luke Shaw because of that.

“Set us up on a Sunday, there’s absolutely no problem with us [playing] on Sunday. It’s international break after. No argument whatsoever, it’s just a joke.”
