Marc-Andre ter Stegen is targeting more trophies with Barcelona after signing a new contract that will keep him with the La Liga giants until 2025.

The Germany international, who joined the club in 2014, has had a €500million (£445million) release clause inserted into his deal.

Ter Stegen has only recently returned from injury, having been sat on the sidelines with a knee injury for more than two months. But back in action, and with new terms signed, the former Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper is eyeing more silverware with the club.

‘I want to play at Camp Nou for many more years and continue winning titles,’ the German goalkeeper said in a video posted on the club’s official Twitter channel.

‘There is no greater motivation [for me]. I hope very soon to be celebrating [the titles] with our fans.’

‘Barcelona has become my home, and my family’s home,’ he continued. ‘Both on and off the pitch, we’re happy here. It was clear how [the contract renewal negotiations] were going to go.’

‘My wish, and the wish of Barça, has always been to reach a renewal agreement and continue the story that began back in 2014. It’s not just playing for the biggest club in the world – it’s more than that. The city and its fans have treated me as one of them from the very beginning, and that’s important to me. It’s a feeling I’ll never forget.’

Ter Stegen has won an array of titles with Barcelona since joining six years ago, winning four La Liga titles, four Copas del Rey and the Champions League in 2015.

The announcement of his new deal comes at a time when Barcelona are reported to be in financial difficulty.

The club are currently attempting to reach a deal with their players to agree a 30 per cent wage reduction, with the Catalan outfit reportedly needing to slash £170m from their budget to stave off fears over bankruptcy.
