NO GO FOR SANCHO
Manchester United have reportedly curbed their interest in going back in for Jadon Sancho having missed out on signing the Borussia Dortmund winger last year.
They were expected to go again for the England winger this year, having failed to meet Dortmund’s £109m price tag, but are now turning their attention to one of his teammates instead, according to the Daily Mirror.
Sancho has only scored one goal all season and they claim that Erling Haaland is now higher on United’s list of priorities rather than the Englishman.
The Mirror adds that United’s hierarchy believe they dodged a very expensive bullet in failing to land Sancho last year.
However, Real Madrid and Barcelona are both also in contention for Haaland, along with all other top European clubs, should he become available.
LIVERPOOL’S MBAPPE BLOW
The appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as manager of PSG has prompted reports to suggest that Kylian Mbappe could perform a U-turn and decide to stay in Paris after all.
Mbappe will enter the final 12 months of his contract in July and will likely be sold if he indicates to PSG that he intends to leave at the end of his contract on a free.
Real Madrid and Liverpool are thought to be at the front of the queue but the arrival of former Tottenham boss Pochettino may sway him to change his mind.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Liverpool have made the 22-year-old their top priority and have put the finances aside to be able to afford him and believe their new sponsorship with Nike, Mbappe’s own sponsor, will strengthen things.
He is a self-professed fan of the Premier League and has admitted he likes Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp too.
LAMPARD PLEADS FOR FLOP
Frank Lampard splashed out more than £200m before the start of the season on transfers but has pleaded with fans to be patient with his most expensive of all.
Kai Havertz signed for £73m from Bayer Leverkusen but has so far only managed one goal and three assists in 15 games this season, although did manage a hat-trick in the League Cup.
And Lampard, who is under increasing pressure after only winning once in his last five games, is urging the club not to make the same mistake with other slow-starting former stars – like Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah – and sell him off.
“We have seen players come here in the past, [who] didn’t really adapt, went elsewhere and came back to the Premier League and absolutely lit it up to unbelievable levels,” he said.
“I am not trying to compare Kai directly with that but there are so many stories across the Premier League, not just Chelsea. So I have full belief in him. We need to give him that time.”
