Liverpool’s recent dip in form has given both Manchester clubs encouragement they could pip them to the Premier League title this season, says former Man Utd captain Roy Keane.
Jurgen Klopp’s champions have not won in their last three league outings, being held to draws with West Brom and Newcastle before slumping to a 1-0 defeat away at Southampton on Monday night.
The Reds now only lead the table on goal difference, as arch-rivals United are level on points in second with a game-in-hand to play against Burnley on Tuesday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side also go away to Anfield on January 17, meaning there’s a chance for them to open up a six-point gap at the top of the Premier League.
Man City have also put themselves back in the title picture of late, with their 3-1 win away at Chelsea last weekend meaning they can also leapfrog Liverpool by winning their two games-in-hand.
Keane believes City have now got their “eye of the tiger” back after an inconsistent start to the season, while insisting we are in for an “interesting” title race this year.
“I think Liverpool’s performances have given me more encouragement for City,” the United legend told Sky Sports.
“Especially with City’s last few performances, they’ll tell you that they’ve got the eye of the tiger back.
“Obviously a little bit of confidence and what will encourage United and City is the way that Liverpool are having a little blip.
“City look like their hunger is back – there was never any question about their quality even if they are missing one or two players, but the quality they have in this team and with the manager, of course they can win the league now.

“United could be six points ahead of Liverpool if they win their next match and then beat then at Anfield, so it is getting interesting.”
Leicester and Tottenham can also claim to be in the title race this season, with Brendan Rodgers’ men just a point behind Liverpool and Spurs four points behind with a game-in-hand.
