UFC president Dana White admits talks with Floyd Mayweather over lucrative exhibition bout against one of his fighters ended after ‘the world imploded’ due to Covid-19 pandemic
- Dana White had said he planned to work with Floyd Mayweather in 2020
- The undefeated boxing legend was set for another huge exhibition showdown
- Coronavirus outbreak put paid to this and White suggests talks have ended
- Mayweather was heavily tipped to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in the ring
UFC president Dana White has admitted the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic last year has seen him put big-money plans with Floyd Mayweather on the back-burner.
White and Mayweather have a cordial relationship and worked together in 2017 when the logistics were put in place for the undefeated boxing legend to go up against Conor McGregor in an exhibition showdown for the ages.
In December 2019 White and Mayweather got tongues wagging in the world of combat sport after being pictured together in public courtside for an LA Clippers versus Boston Celtics NBA showdown, and White has now revealed that any plans being made at the time have now been shelved.

Speaking to ESPN this week, White said: ‘The world imploded [due to Covid-19] after we were talking about doing some things together.
‘I’m just focused on running my business right now,’ he added.
White had since said at the time of the December meeting that he had an agreement with Mayweather to work together in 2020 on a big event, but that never happened.

McGregor’s UFC pedigree didn’t help him when he got into the ring against Mayweather
Mayweather has been heavily tipped to face McGregor’s bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov in one of the biggest money-spinning events in sporting history, even though the UFC sensation declared he has retired from sport following the passing of his father.
His manager Ali Abdelaziz has said Khabib’s retirement hasn’t stopped offers of up to $100million being made to pair him against Mayweather, which also have had UFC chief White’s approval.
But unlike McGregor, who stepped into the boxing ring and lost against Mayweather in 2017, Abdelaziz said Khabib isn’t prepared to do that as he has no previous boxing experience.
He told TMZ: ‘Listen, we got offered $100m to fight Floyd Mayweather. Dana White was on board, everybody was on board. But, you know, Khabib is an MMA fighter. If Floyd wanted to come to fight [in MMA], get his little ass whooped.’
