What the three former Man Utd stars now playing for Inter Milan said about Solskjaer

There will be times when 35 per cent of Inter Milan’s starting XI is made up of former Manchester United players.

Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez all now play for the Serie A giants after mixed spells at United.

Young, arguably had the best time at Old Trafford. Having spent nine-and-a-half seasons at the club, Young did win a Premier League title, an FA Cup and the Europa League in that time.

It may seem little in comparison to others who spent eight seasons at United, but his achievements are astronomical compared to Sanchez’s.

The Chilean’s dismal time at United can only be surmised as 45 appearances, five goals and zero trophies.

All these players played and left under Solskjaer at United but three of them have spoken about the Reds boss and had nothing but good things to say.

Matteo Darmian

Matteo Darmian had nothing but good things to say about Solskjaer.

Darmian left United in 2019 for Parma. An exemplary professional, Darmian soon joined Inter on loan and has made 25 appearancees this season.

“I can only speak well about Solskjaer, believe me,” Darmian told The Guardian in May. “I would give him a long-term contract.

“He’s a very prepared coach and Manchester United has started this project, this journey, with many young players, many British players and they will continue with this project.

“Because of the person I got to know, I hope Solskjaer has success at the club.”

Romelu Lukaku

Solskjaer granted Lukaku’s wish to leave United and the Belgian has thrived in Serie A. The 27-year-old has scored 59 goals in 85 appearances since joining Inter.

And in a recent Twitter Q&A, Lukaku was asked for his thoughts on Solskjaer at United.

“He is doing great,” he said.

“You guys have to know I love him as a manager and as a person and I wish him nothing but the best.”

Ashley Young

Young was United’s captain before he left, such was his standing in the United dressing room.

And in an interview with the club’s in-house channel while he was there, Young was complementary of Solskjaer.

“But it was like I said before, when he arrived it was like the boss [Sir Alex Ferguson] had walked back through the door,” Young told MUTV. “When he gets down the business, it’s serious.

“At times in the dressing room, he’s had to lose it, and I think that’s right when things aren’t going well. You need to be told that.

“He’s got a nice side and a horrible side, which I feel you need. A lot is said about managers, but it’s down to the players at the end of the day.
