Leipzig chief admits Liverpool ‘target’ could leave
RB Leipzig’s new chief has admitted that they could be forced to sell captain Marcel Sabitzer amid links with Liverpool.
The Reds have been linked with the versatile midfielder in recent months, as have Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool are already said to be close to signing Sabitzer’s team mate Ibrahima Konate, with the Echo understanding he is on a five-man centre-back shortlist the club are looking at.
Speaking to Bild, Leipzig’s new chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff has admitted the squad will need trimming down this summer.
“With the newcomers (Mohamed Simakan, Josko Gvardiol and Brian Brobbey), we now have a squad size of 25 for the new season. We have a size of 21 in mind,” said Mintzlaff.
“So something else will happen. That is logical. We can not only buy, but also have to give up players from time to time.
“I am not at all ruling out the possibility that we will strengthen ourselves further. That has something to do with long-term and good squad planning.”
