Champions League qualification will not impact Harry Kane’s Tottenham future

Tottenham’s interim manager, Ryan Mason, has insisted that Champions League qualification is not needed to keeping star-striker – and club captain – Harry Kane.

When prompted about the issue at his pre-match press conference, Mason said: “I don’t think so.

“Harry Kane loves this football club. That’s been proven over the last seven or eight years. He’s one of the best strikers in the world. Everyone knows that, we know that and I’d like to think Harry knows that as well.

“The most important thing right now, and our attention right now, is this weekend. We can’t disrespect any opponent and we can’t be investing our energy into anything else.

Harry Kane is yet to win a trophy with Tottenham, and could look elsewhere to fill his empty cabinet

“That’s all I have to say on the matter. Our attention, Harry’s attention, the attention of this whole football club is on this Sunday.”

Kane, now 28, has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane – reportedly – due to the lack of trophies in his career.

The Englishman has netted 164 Premier League goals in his career, however, his trophy cabinet remains empty.

Tottenham fell short once more in last weekend’s Carabao Cup final

Spurs’ legend David Ginola recently told talkSPORT: “Even though they’ve competed in the Champions League final, I’m pretty sure he wants to play for a team that will challenge for any title in any country.”

Manchester City are reportedly interested in the striker services; so too are Manchester United and PSG.

Spurs are currently sat in seventh – five points off the Champions League places.
