After a dramatic week of European action, the Premier League returns this weekend.
Chelsea and Manchester City both made good strides towards a potential all-English Champions League final, with the former drawing 1-1 away against Real Madrid and the latter returning to the Etihad after beating Paris Saint-Germain 2-1.
It was less good news for Arsenal in the Europa League, although they did at least score an away goal in a 2-1 loss to Villarreal, but Manchester United all but secured their spot in the final by thrashing Roma 6-2.
The focus will now return to the race for a top-four finish, with Liverpool desperately needing a win when they head to Old Trafford on Sunday.
MIchael Owen, who played for both clubs, isn’t convinced, however, that they will pick up a vital three points and instead expects a 1-1 draw.
‘Both these sides played out a 0-0 draw at Anfield earlier in the season,’ He told Bet Victor. ‘That was followed by another close encounter in the FA Cup, a game United won 3-2, so I believe we could be in for another tight match here.
Michael Owen’s Premier League predictions
Southampton 1-2 Leicester
Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City
Brighton 1-0 Leeds
Chelsea 2-0 Fulham
Everton 1-0 Aston Villa
Newcastle 1-1 Arsenal
Man Utd 1-1 Liverpool
Spurs 3-0 Sheff Utd
West Brom 0-1 Wolves
‘Away from home United have been sensational this season. Their home form had been a bit patchy up until recently, however, they come into this undefeated at Old Trafford in six league matches.
‘I think United will happily give Liverpool some territory here in the hope they can catch them on the counter. To some degree, I think this can work, although it will be hard to keep Liverpool out playing like this over the full 90 minutes.
‘With that in mind, I could see this one ending all square with both sides cancelling each other out.’
Chelsea picked up a big win over top-four rivals West Ham last time out and Owen thinks they will have no problem dispatching relegation-threatened Fulham.
‘The Blues are looking good for Champions League qualification, and the visit of struggling Fulham should represent a likely three points,’ he said.
‘Although Fulham have a tendency to surprise us when we least expect it, I don’t think Chelsea are the type of side to switch off too often.
‘West Brom may have caught them off guard a few weeks ago, but I don’t see that happening here. It’s 2-0 Chelsea for me.’
Owen is also expecting wins for European hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur against rock-bottom Sheffield United and Aston Villa respectively, while he thinks Leicester will tighten their grip on a top-four finish by beating Southampton, but suspects Arsenal will have to settle for a point away to Newcastle.
‘For Arsenal, whenever they seem to get going, they hit a roadblock,’ he added. ‘It’s been a frustrating season for Gunners’ fans and coming up against such a buoyed Newcastle side here, I think they may have to settle for a point.’
In the other matches, Owen thinks Manchester City will take another step closer to the title by beating Crystal Palace away, while he’s backing a win for Brighton over Leeds.
West Ham and Burnley, in his view, will split the points, but he thinks relegation-threatened West Brom will suffer a hammer blow by losing at home to local rivals Wolves.
