Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum is set to join Paris Saint-Germain after Mauricio Pochettino convinced the Dutchman to reject a move to Barcelona at the last minute.
The former Newcastle man looked set to move to the Camp Nou at the end of the season after failing to agree a new deal to stay with Liverpool.
Ronald Koeman has a close relationship with Wijnaldum having managed the midfielder during his time as Netherlands boss and the Catalans had been confident that the 30-year-old was set to join the club.
However, widespread reports now claim Wijnaldum is now on the cusp of joining Paris Saint-Germain after the Ligue 1 giants hijacked the move at the last minute.
As well as offering Wijnaldum a vastly superior salary, the Dutchman was said to be impressed by Pochettino’s pitch and feels that he can become a valued member of the squad.
Wijnaldum is set to sign a three-year deal, which will take him to the age of 33 in the French capital.
It comes as Wijnaldum’s international team-mate Memphis Depay is set to seal a free transfer of his own to Barcelona.
The Catalans have already signed Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia on free transfers from Manchester City and they had been eyeing Wijnaldum due to the lack of funds available to Koeman.
