Manchester United fans are so excited by Jadon Sancho’s impending arrival that they are already treating the England star as one of their own.
The Red Devils are finally closing in on a move for the Borussia Dortmund starlet after months of negotiations.
United tried to sign Sancho last summer but baulked at Dortmund’s excessive price tag.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to land his prime target in a huge boost to United ahead of the new campaign with a deal close to agreement.
United may not be able to finalise the Sancho deal until after Euro 2020, a tournament in which the 21-year-old has only been able to play a supporting role in.
Gareth Southgate has preferred other young Three Lions stars, including Arsenal midfielder Bukayo Saka.
But that has not stopped United fans anticipating his arrival, and some eagle-eyed supporters noticed a light-hearted debate between Sancho and Saka during England training.
The talented duo were arguing over who is the better goalscorer and Sancho sharply quipped, “How many goals did you get this season.”
Saka, 19, netted seven times for Arsenal in the 2020/21 campaign while Sancho scored 16 for Dortmund in all competitions.
Sancho’s brutal response was enjoyed by United supporters, with one tweeting “Savage Sancho”.
“Play boy banter and Sancho’s bringing up season stats,” another added.
“Welcome home”, one United fan posted, eagerly awaiting the inevitable transfer announcement.
Sancho’s move to Old Trafford is likely to be determined by England’s run at the Euros.
The winger is currently preparing for the Three Lions’ blockbuster showdown against old foes Germany at Wembley on Tuesday.
