Roy Keane could be Patrick Vieira’s assistant at Crystal Palace, jokes David James

Former England number one, David James, has joked that Manchester United legend, Roy Keane, could join his old foe – Patrick Vieira – at Crystal Palace as the sides new assistant manager.

Vieira was announced as Palace’s new boss on Sunday, and the Frenchman has replaced Roy Hodgson – who retired at the end of last campaign.

Vieira, who was Arsenal’s former captain, had a long-running feud with Keane – including one infamous bust-up in the Highbury tunnel in 2005 before a ball had even been kicked.

And James has joked that the pair should reunite on the touchline at Selhurst Park.

Vieira has previously managed Nice in Ligue 1

“Vieira and Roy Keane have been getting on really well on TV,” he told talkSPORT; the pair have both been part of ITVs coverage for Euro 2020, and fans were excited to see how they would fare on screen.

“So maybe Roy Keane could be his number two!”

James then referenced the TV show Ted Lasso: “Anyone who follows Crystal Palace will also know of Ted Lasso.

“If you think about the success Ted Lasso brought that side… Patrick Vieira’s experience in America sits perfectly with a Ted Lasso appointment.”

Palace open their Premier League season in a London derby at Chelsea – in a clash which some fans predicted Frank Lampard could make his coaching return against the side that axed him last season.

However, it will be the former Arsenal standout in the dugout for the Eagles.
