Giovanni Carnevali, the Sassuolo CEO, has confirmed that Arsenal have already made a bid for Manuel Locatelli, another English club is pursuing his signature, but the midfielder wants to join Juventus.

The 23-year-old was a key part of Italy’s remarkable Euro 2020 glory this summer and is expected to leave Sassuolo for a bigger club thanks to his performances for his country.

Juventus are at the front of the queue to sign the former AC Milan man, with Locatelli wanting to move to the Turin side, but Carnevali says no deal will be done unless Juve meet their valuation.

That valuation is a minimum of €40m (£34m), which Arsenal have reportedly already bid, but Sassuolo have rejected as Locatelli would prefer a move to Juventus.

Carnevali has explained the situation, which has got a little spicier by the arrival of another English side on the scene, although the CEO has not named which team that is.

‘Locatelli wants to join Juventus,’ Carnevali told Sky Sport Italia on Thursday evening.

‘However, the club needs to reach an agreement with us. We’ll see if there are the right conditions to make it happen, otherwise he is staying with us. We’ll speak to Juve tomorrow.

‘Locatelli also has proposals from Arsenal and another English club that has now joined the race, so he must make a decision, or of course he could stay with us.’

Sassuolo have set a deadline of 8 August for any deal to be done, with Carnevali saying they will not be considering any moves after that date, with the Serie A season starting on 21 August.

‘We are not selling any of our star names after 8 August,’ he said. ‘Domenico Berardi is our top player, we want to keep him.

‘If an offer were to arrive, we’d take it into consideration and talk to the player, but we won’t sell anyone deep into August.’
